One of the best things about the Nintendo Switch is it lets you play games with others either at home or on the go. That’s because the Joy-Cons can be separated into two controllers for a pair, making it the perfect gaming machine for couples. In fact, gaming together can be that quality time you and your partner have been looking for.
Some games require working together, while others will pit you against each other. In this post, we’re going to look at some Nintendo Switch games that couples play together to help foster an everlasting bond– or it might destroy it!
10) Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity allows you and your partner to team up to tear down hordes of enemies. There’s nothing more romantic than you and your partner hacking and slashing your way through foes. Plus, Age of Calamity provides plenty to do with tons of DLC, challenges to accomplish, and characters to unlock. So, you guys will get to spend hours together having fun and laughing as you make your way through all the game has to offer.
9) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Mario Kart is a classic party game that’s fun for friends and family alike– making it perfect for couples too. But be warned: these races can get particularly heated, especially when you hit your SO with a red shell and knock them out of their position. If you’re a veteran gamer and your partner isn’t, be sure to take it easy on them. You might end up in the dog house. But we feel a relationship that can survive Mario Kart can endure anything.
8) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate falls under the same vein as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, except you’re engaging in fisticuffs instead of racing. And Smash gives you a lot more characters to choose from such as Sonic, Cloud, Ryu, Snake, Megaman, and PacMan. This can be a good way to get into gaming if your partner isn’t a big gamer but might recognize someone like Link. And it’s also a great way to settle disagreements since you guys can take your frustrations to the game and end up having fun with each other.
7) Super Mario Party
Super Mario Party is another easy game for couples to pick up and play. The premise of the game works like a tabletop board game. You roll dice, move spaces, and compete in mini-games for coins and stars. You can even take the game online with your partner to play against real people to take the fun levels to new heights. Regardless if it’s online or with the AI, you two will have a blast laughing and teasing each other.
6) Terraria
If you want something a little more slow-paced, then there’s Terraria. It’s similar to Minecraft, where you mine materials, craft materials to build structures, and fight against monsters inhabiting the zones. There’s no set goal, so you and your partner are free to play however you like. Whether it’s completing tasks or seeing what you guys can build together, Terraria offers hours of enjoyable moments.
5) Kirby And The Forgotten Land
Pink, cute, and a whole lot of sucking! Kirby And The Forgotten Land is the newest release for the Pink Puffball and his first foray into a fully 3D environment. And it has co-op, so couples can team up to save Waddle Dees as they travel through picturesque environments. However, only the first player will be able to use Kirby’s signature copy ability, while Player 2 takes on the role of a Waddle Dee. Regardless, both players will have a blast finding secrets and platforming.
4) Aegis Defenders
If you’re both seasoned gamers, you’d enjoy tackling Aegis Defenders together. It forces you to cooperate as you defend against waves of foes and try to solve puzzles to progress. It features RPG elements where your characters progress and get more powerful. There’s even a bit of platforming sprinkled in to mix up the gameplay. Between the story plot and gameplay loop, you and your partner will be locked in as you try to finish the game.
3) Overcooked! 2
Overcooked! 2 has you and your partner working together to run a successful restaurant. You both need to prepare ingredients, whip up the meals, and get them out to waiting customers who want their orders perfect. This game will be a true test of your relationship, especially when one is chopping vegetables too slow or constantly running into the other. But when you get that sweet victory, you’ll be equally elated. Be sure to keep your temper in check with this one!
2) Moving Out
If cooking isn’t your thing, how about starting a moving company? Moving Out works the same as Overcooked!, but you’re working together to efficiently move furniture instead of running a busy restaurant. The goal is to remove as many items from the house and load them on the truck before the time runs out. However, some pieces of furniture such as couches require both of you to work together to get the job done. There are plenty of ways to get things out quickly– jump through the window if you want or throw items to your partner from afar. The same rules apply: things can get heated!
1) Luigi’s Mansion 3
Ghosts, vacuums, and Mario’s brother! What can be more fun than that? Well, maybe having your partner along for the ride. For the first time ever, Luigi’s Mansion allows for co-op campaign play where the second player takes up the role of Gooigi– Luigi’s purple goo doppelganger. Beyond the campaign, there are other multiplayer modes for you and your partner to have fun with.
